my wish is your command...

i've been complaining for a few years now that there is no cool surf gear for chicks. like, none. it's as simple as that. it's generally really girly and cheesy and i hate it. insight is an exception but they still focus more on day wear for chicks than board shorts and rash guards. but leave it to T magazine to uncover Pret-A-Surf, a collab between Vogue's Jillian Demling and Karen Mulligan (long time Annie Leibovitz studio manager)that cuts through the cheese and injects a hefty dose of glamour to gear for girls. if only i could look as glamorous as my outfit would imply when riding waves...

Available at Mollusk (NY), Opening Ceremony (NY), Jeffrey (NY) and Surf Bazaar (Montauk). www.pretasurf.com

100th Post - Wowee Zowee

In honour of my 100th post (and first post in a while), I shall discuss something I'm generally 100 per cent sketched out about, that being SHORTS. Models? Cool, yah, wear shorts. They look great. Creepy looking chick on her bike with ana-looking, scary, saggy ass cheeks in denim butt shorts? Maybe reconsider. With my carnie stump legs I'm always hesitant about hopping on the shorts train. However, I've actually found a few pairs of shorts that tickle my fance this season, which will help because i think at the very least I'll have to step up my festival look from last year's AA seersucker bloomers (love them, but *shudder*).

Best for first (i may be a sexual pleasure delayer but I'm definitely not an aesthetic one) -- the ultimate leather shorts from Helmut (who freaking rocks). Wear 'em short or long, and swoon all the while:

But also...

(These bad boys look loose on the thighs...ALWAYS a good thing...)

(Lace bicycle shorts? Have them, INTO THEM. I wear leggings underneath)

Oh, and one more thing...
OBSESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!

GGs (and i don't mean gossip girls)

my faves, especially zoe saldana's. won't even go into my picks for worst -- too many to even mention (christina aguilera...shudder), SLIM pickins this year! note: maggie's fits exquisitely but would have been better in a different colour. ginnifer looks ADORABLE but this isn't a look i'd go for myself, don't think it would work on a lot of people!

chloe sevigny is an honourable mention:
not because it's the best she's ever worn...not even close...but because she pulled it off (despite an escort ripping it en route to her winning speech). she lives in a very special place in my heart

holy jeez

wa wa wee wa. this album is BY FAR one of my favourites of the year, if not the aughts. i saw the decemberists twice this year and the hazards of love shows were epic, with full-blown costumes, group drumming, etc.

my heart is aflutter

creamer

amongst
my favourite
books
of all time

UPDATE: saw the movie, with was conspicuously devoid of pimples, Dwayne, anal liberties, Fuzzy, etc. Also, Trent was very poorly casted...should have been more of a chace crawford type. but c'est la vie -- 9 out of 10 times (maybe 9.5 out of 10) the movie does not REMOTELY live up to the book. all in all it was funny (albeit weird) to see michael cera play a badass Frenchman, and he was pretty good as Nick Twisp, but expectations must be managed if you are a fan of the teen tome and intend to see the film.

portnoy's complaint

love this passage:

"It is as though all the Jewish men ducking beneath the cold dribble of shower off in the corner of the steam room, then lumbering back for more of the thick dense suffocating vapors, it is as though they have ridden the time-machine back to an age when they existed as some herd of Jewish animals, whose only utterance is oy, oy...for this is the sound they make as they drag themselves from the shower into the heavy gush of fumes. They appear, at long last, my father and his fellow sufferers, to have returned to the habitat in which they can be natural."

so THAT's what goes down at the shvitz

this book is fantastic

woweeee

do the math...

terence koh + daphne guinness + monkey hair (sad as it is) + a plethora of blinged finger rings = sublime

anyone have an extra $10,000?

if so, can you throw it my way in the form of Ed Ruscha's special edition On The Road? Kerouac's prolific novel gets an illustrated twist with Ruscha's photographs -- understandably, what with Ruscha's personal affinity for the novel. the book itself is exquisite and the blending of art and literature is so very natural.

my boyfriends never wanted to wear couple's outfits
(actually one did)

serious guy style: yigal azrouel

i would be really happy if my non-existent boyfriend dressed like this

apologies

haven't been crediting images. a pox on my house, i know. gargantuan apologies and i promise to right this wrong...or i'll sing you a song. or you can sue me. no, no. don't. that's the opposite of the point i was trying to make (the office, anyone?)

guess it doesn't really matter when you have no readers, right?

Guy Style: Zac Posen

Yes, Posen's style can be a little sketchy, a bit femmy, sometimes too Hugh Hefner-esque, flamboyant to a fault and I'm sorry to have to say it but a tuxedo man-cape doesn't really fly in my books. But lately there have been a few occasions where the American designer, who does wonders where women are concerned, has really caught my eye.

The opulence of the green, jacquard jacket juxtaposed with simple jeans and a tee, plus the roughness of the black boots, is really appealing. I quite like it!! And the military jacket works (though, in the past, a velvet version he wore didn't quite hit the nail on the head), again because of the contrast with the jeans and boots, the red shirt popping beneath and the petite bow tie. More androgynous than femme.

coveting

these boots. i think i have a sickness. but isn't it hard to find boots that are so nicely worked in!? it's actually really hard to find a good pair that fits right at thrift stores. trust me, my number one choice would be old painters boots or a very small man's work boots. but, alas, hard to find

in other news, JPG x Dr. Martens

did u know

mark twain named his cats long, odd names like Beelzebub Blatherskite, Appollinaris, and Zoroaster so his kids would be better accustomed to pronouncing multi-syllabic words (unlike huck finn and tom sawyer)

i heart him

p.s. my current literary obsession is really tom robbins

p.p.s. this is my other current obsession:

i die die die die die a million times

it's just too much

sensual overload

beauty full

single tear

head spinning

........these shoes make me horny

(the first pair are the hottest thing i've ever seen)

Top notes

My new obsession may not be all that new at all but it's taken my world by storm. A few months ago I fell in love with the high side bun, or top knot, if you will. It's funky, fresh, offbeat and, sadly, not easy to pull off. It's also not easy to execute -- I can't get mine to stay put! But I tried it out at my office party and, despite numerous perplexed looks from passers-by, I felt pretty great. I intend to make a second attempt outside the safety net of office life...and with a little help from about 400 bobby pins.

Quelle Surprise

Chloe Sevigny a.k.a my style icon extraordinaire hit the nail on the head yet again. The nude, pleated dress; the long-hanging LBP (little black purse); her gorgeous opening ceremony sandals; and tousled hair with red lips ... flawless.

Here are Chloe and Lissy Trullie wearing the boots in the look book. Check out Lissy's cover of Hot Chip's Ready for the Floor. Love it.
